An afternoon DJ workshop with Sheffield-based FLAW Collective. Inspired by the rhythmic sounds and movement in Phoebe Davies’ Points of Rupture exhibition.
This event has been postponed until further notice.
Working with members of FLAW Collective, you’ll have the opportunity to practise the basics of mixing music using a DJ controller. Learn how to count a beat and have a go at looping, scratching and blending. There will be live visuals which will react to your body movements, we will be asking you how songs make you feel and which ones make you want to move!
You will be able to record a mini-mix and create your own unique identity as a DJ, inspired by the rhythmic sounds and movement in Phoebe Davies’ Points of Rupture.
Booking necessary and spaces are limited. Absolutely no prior music experience required.
Recommended age 7+.
Family ticket £5 for up to 5 people.
About FLAW Collective
FLAW Collective run workshops and events for female identifying, non-binary and trans identifying creatives to share skills, collaborate and support each other!
One of their main aims is to increase the accessibility of knowledge and equipment, with particular focus on those who are currently underrepresented in the music industry. DJing equipment is extremely expensive so it is important to them that their workshops are affordable.
For the Site Gallery sessions, they have chosen to use a controller to increase accessibility for beginners of a younger age group, so they can continue their practise after the session.
You can find out more about them and what they are up to on Instagram and Facebook.
