On the first weekend of July 2017, we bring together some very unique mobile arts spaces on the Victoria Quays (formerly Sheffield Canal Basin) for some creative fun, learning and celebration.
London-based arts organisation Up Projects’s famous and beautiful Floating Cinema begins an 8 stop tour of the Yorkshire Waterways on Saturday 1 July from 8pm.
Site Gallery will join the boat on location from 4pm on Sunday 2 July, taking the On The Road van for a ‘test-drive’.
SATURDAY 1 JULY
FROM 8PM: FLOATING CINEMA LAUNCH AND FILM SCREENINGS
The evening begins at 8pm with music, food and bar, and screenings start around sunset (9.30pm). You can bring a picnic or buy food and drinks on site. Blankets available to hire or bring your own.

Academy Award Winner Best Documentary Feature.
20 Feet From Stardom is the story of the backing singers who have performed with world-famous bands and musicians such as Sting, Rolling Stones and Michael Jackson. While millions may know their voices, these backing singers never became household names. The story revolves around the vital contribution by backing singers such as Darlene Love to some of the most famous tracks ever recorded, while highlight the constraints these singers navigated within the music industry and society.

SUNDAY 2 JULY
4PM – 6.30PM: ON THE ROAD AND FLOATING CINEMA
Join Site Gallery from 4pm for talks, workshops and activities, to celebrate the debut outing and activation of our On The Road van. This mobile contemporary gallery/workshop space has been co-designed by architects Public Works and the Society of Explorers, who will be presenting a free public workshop.

7PM – 8.30PM: SITE SESSIONS: THE MOBILE IMAGINATION
At 7pm the van will be transformed to host the third of our Site Sessions events. This lively discussion series brings together art, science, technology and more (previous events covered Art, Science and the Truth and The New Economies).
9.30PM: FLOATING CINEMA FILM SCREENINGS

Billy Wilder’s Sunset Boulevard is one of the most famous films from the golden age of Hollywood.
The story revolves around Norma Desmond (Gloria Swanson) a star of the silent era desperate to revive her career. Norma meets Joe Gillis (William Holden) and on hearing his profession persuades him into helping her with a comeback script that she’s been working on for years. Joe realizes that the script is hopeless, but the money is good and he has nowhere else to go. Soon the cynical and opportunistic Joe becomes Norma’s kept man. While they continue collaborating, Norma’s loyal and protective chauffeur Max Von Mayerling contemptuously watches from a distance.
