Photography Masterclass

Saturday 24 and Sunday 25 May 2014
A two-day photography masterclass inspired by the ideas of rapid urban change and the natural landscape, as explored in our current exhibition of Taiwanese artist Wu Chi-Tsung.

Enhance your technical and creative approach to photography, across natural and man-made landscapes with guidance from award winning photographer Paul Hill MBE, assisted by  Maria Falconer FPRS.

This unique workshop is suitable for amateur photographers and professionals. Paul and Maria will offer expert hands-on tuition that is appropriate to your level of experience.

The workshop theme is ‘Marking the Land’ – how marks are made on the land by man, nature and by the process of photography itself. You will complete the workshop with a new set of photographs, and an enhanced creative and technical ability to capture light, shade, the mysteries of the natural landscape and the city.

*Early bird booking offer extended until 14 May 2014  (£150.00 per place, limited availability)

Equipment
Participants are required to bring their own camera to this workshop; DSLR, compact or bridge cameras with adjustable manual settings are all suitable. You are welcome to bring a tripod and additional lenses with you and a laptop (but there will be access to computers for editing processes, if required).

The Workshop
The workshop will begin at Site Gallery with an introduction by Paul Hill and Maria Falconer. They will present the workshop theme and techniques to explore over the two days. Paul will present examples of his work in the field of landscape photography and particularly in the Peak District, sharing some of his extensive knowledge.

You are invited to bring along examples of your own photographs for an informal sharing session, and to enable Paul to gain a sense of your ideas and experience before we get started. Key to the weekend will be group discussion, ideas and skill sharing between participants and Paul and Maria.

There will be two fieldwork sessions with hands-on tuition over the course of the weekend. Day 1 will explore approaches to photographing the natural landscape during an excursion to the Peak District. Day 2 will focus upon urban photography in Sheffield city centre. Each session will be followed by in-depth feedback sessions at Site Gallery with Paul, Maria and the rest of the group. You will consider the photographs you have taken, explore editing processes and approaches to sequencing images.
