Open Deck with Ashley Holmes – Built Environments and City Landscapes
Join interdisciplinary artist Ashley Holmes for Open Deck – a series of gatherings that encourage collective listening and conversations to document our relationships to music and sound.
Open Deck invites you to bring music (vinyl records or mp3 files) responding to the theme and contribute to a space of collective listening and sharing of stories, memories and perspectives. The focus of the evening will be to consider how we can understand local social and political histories through music and audio recordings.
There will be a laptop, record player and a sound system set up, with an open deck policy.

Bio
Ashley Holmes (b. Luton, 1990) is an interdisciplinary artist working across moving image, installation, performance, music and radio broadcasts.
Holmes studied at Sheffield Hallam University graduating with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art in 2013. Recent selected exhibitions include; Survey, Jerwood Arts, London, UK; …and their tooth, finest gold, Les Urbaines, Lausanne, Switzerland; Cry Then Win Then Lose Reaction, Two Queens, Leicester, UK (solo) ; Money Cyant Fool Them Again 1.1, Basel, Switzerland (solo) ; Starless Midnight, BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art, Gateshead.
Rules of Engagement
The idea is that anyone can bring music or audio recordings (mp3 files on a usb or vinyl records) with the opportunity to share a discussion space in a small group, and talk about some of the contributions people have made.
Any genre, any time period – as niche, unusual, popular, long or short as you like. Contributions should try to respond to the theme.

When was it produced?
Where?
And what do you know of the country/city/town/local area during that time period?
How do people listen to it?
How is it archived or documented?
