A programme of events and activities for Art Sheffield 2016, designed by young people, for young people at Site Gallery and Millennium Gallery.

Drawing on the themes of this year’s festival, the Shut Up! See Art! weekend will include a music programme, film screenings, workshops and performances. All activities are suitable for young people 14+.

All events are FREE to attend.
We are working with some great Artists including Girl Gang, Peter Martin, It’s All Tropical, Gillian Brent and Hannah Sawtell.

FRIDAY 29 APRIL

Opening Event at Millennium Gallery, 6pm – 10pm
We will be celebrating the opening of Shut Up! See Art! at the Millennium Gallery. Expect sound performances, DJ spectacles and art workshops. Snacks and drinks will be served from our mocktail bar, designed in collaboration with It’s All Tropical artist collective. Come and spend time with your friends.

The music in the main space will be provided by students from Red Tape Central who are responding to the themes of Art Sheffield, think dark spaces and glitch video. Expect surround sound noise and unexpected visuals.

Girl Gang Sheffield will be hosting a hands on making workshop and Instagram takeover, make and broadcast your creations!
It’s All Tropical will make you feel fine! Sample the delights of our mocktail bar installation, the most colourful drinks you have tasted…

SATURDAY 30 APRIL
Millennium Gallery & Site Gallery, 12pm – 4pm
Bring Your Own Beamer at The Millennium Gallery
Bring your own beamer is an open-source projection event. We have been working with young people across Sheffield, alongside Artist Peter Martin to make a series of gifs. They will be shown throughout the day at the Millennium Gallery.

There is also an open invite to bring your own digital artworks and project them using our projectors, you can bring short film, gifs, or photographic slide shows. We will have media players, so just bring your SD cards.
For those of a more analogue persuasion, you can project your own artwork designs using an Over Head Projector.

Art Sheffield Young People Tours
Departing from Site Gallery, at 12pm, 2pm and 4pm.
These are tours that have been created by artist Gillian Brent and the Society of Explorers. This is Art Sheffield explored by from a young people’s perspective. Part talk, part talk, part interactive, not to be missed!
Limited capacity, please register on arrival at Site Gallery (up to an hour before departure).

Tye Die Tapes
Tye Die are an independent record label and recording studio based in Sheffield. They will be hosting a stall with their latest releases, come and see what goodies are available!

Proper Pies @ Site Gallery
Proper pies will be supplying food and beverages at the Site Gallery café, bring your pocket money, these pies are worth it! Vegan and vegetarian catered for.

SUNDAY 1ST MAY
Site Gallery 12 – 4pm
Short-Film Screening
A short film screening curated by the Society of Explorers in response to the Art Sheffield programme. With humor and social comment.

Workshop: Exploring @dividend_plus
Hannah Sawtell’s newly commissioned exhibition @dividend_plus for Art Sheffield is presented at Site Gallery. It explores ideas around image production, economics, access and excess. This is an opportunity to explore these themes using the artist’s online platform to create digital collages.

Music Performance
A chance to relax and enjoy Sunday afternoon in the gallery. A sound and visual installation created by Dominic Ewan and Benjamin Whateley.

Pie Eyed at Site Gallery
Pie Eyed will be supplying food and beverages at the Site Gallery Common Room – bring your pocket money, these pies are worth it! Vegan and vegetarian catered for.
Suitable for 14+ years.
