City of Ideas is an ambitious partnership project grown out of many years of collaborative working in the heart of the Cultural Industries Quarter (CIQ) in Sheffield.
Supported by Arts Council’s Ambition for Excellence fund, this project is designed to connect communities of interest in the CIQ. Through regular talk night Site Sessions, the commission of new public artworks and collaborating with city planners, contractors and architects we aim to energise and build the viability, visibility and visit-ability of the area.
As part of the City of Ideas project, we have invited the landscape, art and architecture practice, Wayward, to develop a strategic vision for the future of The Square (Pinball Park) in the heart of Sheffield’s Cultural Industries Quarter. During Site’s Opening Weekend (28 – 30 September 2018) they will be in Sheffield and invite the local community to join in, show support and have a voice in developing a shared vision for Sheffield’s public realm. About Wayward
Wayward is a London-based landscape, art and architecture practice – an award-winning collective of designers, artists and urban growers. Since 2006, Wayward has pioneered new methodologies in the creative use of underutilised land and meanwhile spaces, transforming derelict sites into large-scale, design-driven spaces that engage local communities and inspire international audiences.
Wayward takes a unique approach to landscape through the creation of narrative environments. Our projects express stories that connect people through nature, creating vibrant places which are productive, meaningful and imaginative. Our projects are platforms for collaboration, experimentation and creative innovation. Our work goes beyond design to extend to creative direction and production, project delivery, strategic partnership building, community engagement, original programming, curation and live events.
City of Ideas is supported by a project team of significant local cultural organizations, including; independent cinema Showroom/Workstation; Doc/Fest aka Sheffield International Documentary Festival; Yorkshire Artspace, the largest purpose built studio complex in the UK; award winning black theatre company Eclipse Theatre, and Forced Entertainment, internationally renowned experimental theatre company.
