WHO WE ARE

Site Gallery’s Society of Explorers is a collective of young people aged 14 – 19, who meet regularly to collaborate, discuss and create. They work with artists and the gallery team to get involved in the artistic programme and to develop projects, events and ideas.

In the last year, they have developed skills in VJ-ing, electronic music production and programming festival events. At Folk Forest 2018 the ‘explorers’ curated an exciting programme of emerging young artists including spoken word; live music; workshops and films. Much of this activity centered around the Art Van, a mobile art space that the ‘Explorers’ transformed from a white transit van into a mobile art space.

For Abandon Normal Devices 2017, the ‘explorers’ collaborated with contemporary artist Steve Maher on his Heavy Metal Detector, a project that uses hacked metal detectors to play pre-recorded Heavy Metal music.
